Winery Experience

It all began in May 1988 when Mark & Wendy Hastwell and Martin & Jill Lightfoot purchased land in the beautiful McLaren Vale region of South Australia, and began planting the first vines in July. From there it has expanded to over 40 acres of vineyard and 3 acres of olives, as well as two wine brands sold in many parts of the World.

The first wine bottled under the Hastwell & Lightfoot brand was the 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon. It was hand picked from the two year old vines on the Home Block and resulted in a mere 60 cases of wine.

Over the years the partnership has deepened with younger members of the families becoming involved. James Hastwell has been the winemaker since 2003, Richard McGeachy (Martin’s nephew) is Vineyard Manager and Trinity Hastwell helps out in the new Cellar Door.

The Hastwell & Lightfoot Cellar Door opened in February 2016 and is perfectly located between the vineyards and the winery. The Cellar Door is bright and spacious offering stunning vistas to the North, East and West. On weekends shared platters are available with simple cheese platters at other times
